DAVID GILMOUR - LUCK & STRANGE TOUR

David Gilmour

David Gilmour is a British guitarist, singer, and songwriter, best known as Pink Floyd’s lead guitarist and a principal vocalist. Alongside his work with the band, he has released five solo albums. Gilmour was an early pioneer in using lasers in large-scale concerts, with his 1970s shows setting the stage for how lasers could connect music and audiences.

Marc Brickman

For the 2024 Luck & Strange world tour, longtime collaborator and production designer Marc Brickman invited us to design the laser show. Brickman’s history with Gilmour spans decades, and his approach to this tour combined established visual motifs with new technologies and live elements. We worked closely with Marc to integrate lasers into that vision, designing laser effects that portrayed the evolving visual language of the show.

Laser Performance

Lasers were used sparingly for maximum impact. Act Two opened with a wall of beams behind Gilmour during “Sorrow,” building toward the climactic finale of “Comfortably Numb,” which closed the show each night. Because Gilmour never plays that solo the same way twice, we treated the lasers as live instruments, following his phrasing in real time. Each night became an improvised exchange between guitar and light, turning the solo into a shared performance.

Reception and Impact

Critics consistently highlighted the laser moments as defining peaks of the tour. Reviews described them as dazzling, surreal, and perfectly timed with the music. Fans echoed this, calling the lasers powerful, tasteful, and unlike anything seen on Gilmour’s previous tours. The production extended his long history with lasers into 2024, pairing new material with classics in what many regarded as the most ambitious laser setup of his solo career.
