EVERYTHING ALWAYS AT ULTRA MIAMI 2025 - livestream LASER BANDING
Everything Always at Ultra
When house DJs Dom Dolla and John Summit decided to combine their musical talents under the banner Everything Always, they set a high bar. Their headlining set at Ultra Music Festival 2025 needed to make a statement—not only about their music but also about how electronic performances can look and feel. Working with Los Angeles–based creative studio Human Person and drawing on our laser design expertise at PRECISION, we helped them deliver a show that captured attention on-site and online.
Practical Effects As Visual Signature
Ultra is known for its digital spectacle, but Human Person and PRECISION took a fresh approach by utilizing practical techniques during Everything Always’ set. Human Person sculpted a block of ice in the shape of the Ultra mainstage, shone lasers through it, and captured the evolving textures on camera as it melted. These organic visuals became the bedrock of the show’s visual content.
We were tasked with weaving lasers into this vision. The challenge: create a live laser show that would look bold in person and in-camera. This meant going beyond traditional laser beam shows to something that would impress both audiences equally.
Dual-Audience Laser Experience
The solution was Laser Banding—a technique that utilizes exploits in laser and camera technology to cause lasers to appear as physics-defying floating beams. In practice, this meant writing a single laser show that produced two distinct looks:
For the festival audience: Solid, saturated beams projected from the stage, performing in sync with Everything Always’ music. The patterns and colors echoed the melting-ice visuals, making the lasers feel like part of the environment.
For the livestream audience: The same laser cues transformed into floating, segmented bands on camera, adding depth and intrigue as the laser effects appeared to break the rules of physical reality and defy human expectations.
This dual laser design flipped the typical dynamic: watching from home wasn’t a compromise. Instead, the livestream offered its own layer of visual storytelling, creating a unique laser show experience exclusively available online.
Collaboration and Craftsmanship
PRECISION and Human Person worked closely to perfect the laser show. We used lasers and cameras in our studio to perfect the Laser Banding effects, ensuring the laser programming appeared powerful in camera and in person. Human Person’s video content set the color palette—icy blues, deep violets, and occasional bursts of fiery orange—and our laser hues always complemented the screen visuals.
Ultra was a collaborator in making this happen, standardizing its broadcast camera package so every shot—from crowd sweeps to tight artist close‑ups—captured the floating beams consistently. When the show went live, camera cuts felt effortless; the Laser Banding effects held through every transition.
Reaction and Reach
Fans at Ultra Miami immediately noticed the lasers. Many called the stage production the highlight of Day 1; some said it was the most immersive show they’d seen at Ultra. On the livestream, comments lit up with questions like, “How are those beams floating?” and “Why does it look like waves?” Clips spread quickly across social media, with viewers sharing slowed-down footage to analyze the rippling Laser Banding effects. A video examining the technique gained traction, drawing attention to the thought and technology behind the spectacle.
Why It Matters
For festival directors and touring artists, this project demonstrates that Laser Banding can be used to create equally compelling laser shows for live and broadcast audiences. By syncing laser cues to both the music and the cameras, we turned beams into an integral narrative element. Our collaboration with Human Person proves that practical effects—like footage of a laser melted ice sculpture—can be amplified with cutting-edge laser programming. And the results speak for themselves: a cohesive visual story that resonates whether you’re at the festival or streaming from home.
