Gesaffelstein is a French electronic music producer known for dark, industrial techno and a severe, minimalist stage persona. He returned to Coachella in 2024 with a new live show supporting his third album, Gamma.

The fan‑described “Lord of Darkness” performed in a tailored black suit and a glossy, featureless mask with glowing eyes. Rather than creating a sensory‑overwhelming EDM light show, he created a dark‑show—framing Vantablack towers, a tiered platform, and black crystal forms with harsh, aggressive lighting to produce stark silhouettes and shifting shadows.

We designed ultra‑powerful white overhead laser spotlight effects to cut through the haze and darkness with hard‑edged planes and beams at key moments. The laser spotlight not only created powerful silhouettes of Gesaffelstein—it also struck the black crystals that surrounded him, activating them with luminous flares. The monochrome, geometric laser design matched his austere aesthetic and translated the music’s precision into architectural light.

Coachella’s official channels framed the set as enigmatic “sorcery” and declared that “the darkness business is booming,” while coverage and fans repeatedly singled out the visuals—especially the lasers—as a defining element of the weekend.

results

The union of severe sound and engineered darkness has defined Gesaffelstein’s reputation for boundary‑pushing live stage production. The Coachella laser design was so well received that it was used for Gesaffelstein’s subsequent world tour, Enter The Gamma.
