NLE Choppa & roddy ricch: Walk Em Down
Context
In March 2020, NLE Choppa released Walk Em Down featuring Roddy Ricch as a single from his debut album Top Shotta. The collaboration brought together two of hip-hop’s fastest-rising artists: Memphis-born Choppa, known for his high-energy delivery, and Compton’s Roddy Ricch, then fresh off the success of The Box. The video needed a bold visual identity to match the momentum of both artists and the intensity of the track.
Laser Design
PRECISION used Laser Banding to turn simple sets into dramatic performance spaces. On the black cyc wall, beams formed sharp white shards that carved the void into a sculptural stage around Choppa. In the car sequences, high-speed banding effects created streaks of light rushing past the frame, giving the scenes a feeling of forward momentum that matched the track’s relentless pace. Roddy Ricch’s verse was staged in a red-lit environment, providing a stark contrast while Choppa’s laser fields defined the futuristic edge of the video.
Reception
Fans quickly embraced the video, praising its energy and replay value as it racked up millions of views in the weeks after release. Many highlighted the visuals as “insane” and “so hard,” pointing to the lasers as what made the video stand out. Industry outlets including Hypebeast described it as built around “laser-filled visuals,” and performance media highlighted Choppa dancing amid beams of light as a defining image. The creative staging even helped fuel the #WalkEmDownChallenge on TikTok, where fans mimicked Choppa’s moves from the laser-lit sequences.
Outcome
The Walk Em Down video gave two breakout artists a distinctive visual platform. Laser Banding turned minimal sets into cinematic environments, amplified the track’s intensity, and gave the single a visual identity that remains memorable within 2020’s hip-hop landscape.
