Context
Gareth Emery is a British DJ and producer known for emotional trance anthems and ambitious live productions. After touring his groundbreaking Laserface series — concerts built entirely around lasers — he set out to push the concept further. The result was LSR/CITY, conceived as the next-level evolution of his previous work.
From Laserface to LSR/CITY
Laserface proved that lasers could define the identity of an entire concert. After several years of touring it, Emery envisioned something on an even larger scale. He described LSR/CITY as “a show so far in the future it would leave everything we did before in the dust.” To realize it, he partnered with PRECISION to design and program both LSR/CITY V1 and V2.
V1: Warehouse Debut in Las Vegas
The first version premiered in May 2022 during EDC Week at a secret Las Vegas warehouse. A small invited audience experienced a 360° large-scale laser production in an intimate setting. V1 was a testing ground for new ideas and laid the foundation for the touring show that followed.
V2: North America Tour
Later in 2022, LSR/CITY V2 toured across the USA and Canada. The production introduced live vocals from Annabel, with Emery on guitar and synths, performed in ultra-high-power laser spotlights. PRECISION delivered a touring package of high-powered & audience-scanning lasers that drove every moment of the performance.
Reception
Critics hailed LSR/CITY as “a cinematic masterpiece,” and EDM outlets described its programming as “unrivaled.” Fans called it “the best show I’ve ever seen” and “nothing like it in the industry.” Across reviews and social media, the lasers were consistently recognized as the defining feature that set LSR/CITY apart.
Outcome
